Today, David Cone had a press conference to dicusss a number of topics. First he talked about the steroid issue that has been going on for the past couple of years. Cone admitted that he has to take some of the blame for playing in the era and being part of the players association. During the 94 strike the players turned down a drug testing policy since it wasn't a big deal back then. But ever since 1998 with the Mark McGwire - Sammy Sosa home run race, people have questioned the integrity of the players and the use of steroids. Cone has not admitted to doing doing any type of performance enhancing drug, but feels that if he did something back in 1994, steroids would not be as big of issue as it is today. Cone has always been known as a respectful and humble person and he wants to see drug testing get back on the right track and crackdown on steroid use. One thing I was glad to hear is that he's coming to the YES broadcast booth for some games during the 2008 season rotating with Al Leiter and Paul O'Neill. Cone is a very knowledgeable person and I will be interested to what he has to say about numerous topics about the game of baseball. So sad to see the use of steriods these days in baseball. Makes one question a lot of sports out there, like wrestling and running and football. I understand the use of steriods in medication - like I know my asthma inhaler has steriods in it, but if your common person took steriods, we too can be playing sports at a good level.
